Stone root, also known as Horse Balm, Rich Weed or Knob Grass is a kind of a perennial herb growing up to 4 feet tall, with a single, erect, square stem. Oval, toothed leaves grow in opposite pairs along the stem, which culminates in a cone-shaped, branched cluster of small, tubular, light yellow flowers. The flowers have a strong lemony smell.

Although there's no such study that can prove yet the effectiveness of this herb in treating hemorrhoids, stone root is believed to strengthen the veins and help in the digestion. Early history of this plant originates from the American Indians who used this plant in treating wounds and a tea brewed from the rhizome of stone root once served as a tonic and diuretic and as a household remedy for headaches and constipation.

As an astringent, stone root contracts the inner lining of the intestines, and can be helpful in treating digestive system disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome and mucous colitis. The fresh leaves or roots of stone root are used as a poultice for bruises, cuts, and sores.

Other conditions or ailments which using stone root is believed to be effective are headache, diarrhea, indigestion, cramps, urinary track infection and bronchitis. The common parts of the plant used is the root, rhizome and leaves.

There is no proof to the above claims yet, but considering this herb as a natural hemorrhoid treatment is better than the chemically enhanced substance which you aren't sure its effectiveness. And also, natural ingredients do far better for your body.
